puppy training
Ah, dogs. Universally known as men’s best friend. That makes it no wonder that dogs are one of the most popular household pets. These loyal and playful animals make wonderful additions to families or as companions. Surprise your loved ones, friends or children by bringing home a puppy. You will not regret such a decision.

Ah, what is that you say? You are worried about the process of puppy training? Well, puppies may be rather playful and difficult to handle at first. But in due time and with proper puppy training, you will find yourself telling your neighbors how obedient your little bundle of joy is.

For first timers, puppy training can be rather daunting and difficult. Many beginners give up due to the lack of patience and knowledge. One should keep in mind that puppies are like kids, all they wanna do is have innocent fun. As a parent, it can be pretty frustrating. However, if you are patient and persistent, sooner or later they will start listening to you more. This applies to puppy training as well; all you have to do is be patient but at the same time stern with them.

Housebreaking is one of the most basic things when it comes to puppy training. It would save a lot of hassle of constantly having to chase your puppy around cleaning after it has done its “business.” Another thing would be training your puppy to walk on a leash. Most puppies will not be used to wearing a collar with a leash, so you will find that more than often they will not listen to you. But this is not something that effective puppy training cannot overcome. Start with short walks around the house and try not to pull too hard against your puppy. Let it be an explorer and after some time you will find your puppy looking forward to every walking session.

Now, you will probably start thinking about teaching your puppy to obey to simple commands. In most puppy training programs, the foremost thing would be teaching them to sit. Puppies are naturally very energetic animals and would not sit for very long. So to teach your puppy to sit at your command, you have to stern with it and reward them with treats after for doing a good job. Remember to praise them frequently as well.

After successfully training your dog to sit, you can start teaching to listen to other commands such as come, lay down, stay, fetch and heel. Puppy training can be very fun for both parties if done properly. Do not beat or frighten your puppy because this will have consequences on the relationship between the both of you. Conversely, do not neglect your puppy as well. Dogs are friendly and sociable by nature. Play and interact with them as often as possible. Maintaining a good relationship with your puppy will also make puppy training an easier and more pleasant process. Being persistent and consistent is the key to having a well-trained puppy.

  1. Patience and repitition is the biggest problem for most people when training a puppy. You need to create a routine with a puppy and they will need to go to the bathroom alot more than you think in the beginning. Basically after everly meal, when they wake up, just after they drank some water and even in the middle of the night. If you can manage to give them the same commands everytime they go, they will quickly become housetrained.

My neighbor tried to convince me that the best way was to shove your dog’s nose in its business after it had pee’d somewhere it shouldn’t have- what an idiot! You just end up with a dog that’s terrified to go to the toilet, luckily I didn’t take his advice.
