Too good to be true
Fabulous new Cobra Venom concept is an awesome reinvention of the Sixties icon. There’s just one small problem though..
There aren’t many rules in life. Never meet your heroes, never attempt to cover ‘American Pie’ and never try to recreate one of the most iconic shapes of 20th-century motoring.
Former AC designer, Jamie Martin, has just broken one of these rules with his modern take on the 1960s AC Shelby Cobra, and proved us wrong in the process =P.
He’s called his car the Cobra Venom V8 Concept. The engine, then, isn’t altogether suprising as it uses a supercharged Ford V8 with 524bhp and 420lb ft. This gives the Cobra Venom concept a 0-62mph time of 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 214mph
There are carbon-fibre body panels, an extruded aluminium chassis like the Lotus Elise, and the Cobra also gets a six-speed manual as standard. A paddle gearbox is optional, while ABS and traction control are standard. In a nod to the car’s heritage and obvious links, the Pirelli tyres get a snake-tread pattern.
There’s just one snag. All of the above is straight out of the fantasy land – the car is computer-generated, and those specs are wishful thinking. On it says ‘The Future Begins…’. But it doesn’t, at least not untill some manufacturer gets involved, and none appear to be biting yet. What’s wrong with them all? =)
